Movilization of Private Finance 2023 Report

Publication date: 2023-01-01

Authors: MDB Task Force on Mobilization

The 2023 Multilateral Development Banks Report highlights a record year in private finance mobilization by Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs). The report reveals that total private mobilization for middle and low-income countries reached $87.9 billion in 2023, a 24% increase from the previous year, marking the largest increase recorded to date. For low-income countries, private mobilization rose by 40%, reaching $10.2 billion. CAF, as a member of the MDB Task Force on Mobilization, contributes to these collective efforts which have outperformed foreign direct investment for the third consecutive reporting cycle. The document also notes that nearly half of the mobilization comes from products introduced within the past seven years, demonstrating how innovation significantly drives these results. Additionally, the report details the initiation of a review to expand the joint mobilization methodology, seeking to identify and quantify the growing variety of financing available for high-impact projects.
